78 Battery was originally formed as 30 Field Battery in 1899, in 1900 it became 30 Bty RGA.
During the period between 1900 - 1910 they where on the March visiting Fyzabad,Barkacha,Meeroot Peshawar,Rawalpindi,Hutti,Agra,Purkazi,Mooltan And finally Karachi.
From 1911 to 1914 they where staioned at Edingburgh,Glasgow,Fethard and Deepcut.
On the the 1st November to the 21st Dec they saw action on the Western Front engaging the enemy at Mons,Aisne.Yrpes,and Givenchy.
On 25th Jan 1915 engaged the enemy at Givenchy,Ru de Bois,Looseand the Hohenzollern Redoubt on the 13 Oct Maj Macnaghten won the DSO at Givenchy for gallantry and conspicuous ability during the attack German attack on the village.
During 1916 to 1918 they engaged the enemy at the Somme,Pozieres Ridge,Flers Courcellette,Morvil,and finally engaged the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line.
